Card Types are a powerful tool for organizing information on Wagn. Every card has a type, and that type shapes what kind of information goes into each card. You will often see a type to the right of a card's name in the header (though if the card has the default type Basic, you won't see anything).

There are several built-in types, like Images, Files, Phrases, and Pointers, which let you enter special kinds of information. When you edit an Image card, for example, you get an upload button. When you edit a Phrase card, you get a small box. You can also create new types on the fly (see How To below).

Types are often used as a way to identify a group of the same kinds of things together. To get a bit fancier, Wagneers often like to format all the cards of a certain type. For example, on Wagn.org, all the User cards have a custom format.

    How To

    Changing types

Changing a card's type is about as easy as editing a card. Just click on the Edit tab at the right edge of any card header, then click on type just underneath it:

You'll see a dropdown menu (set to image in the example above), which you can click on to change the type to something else. (Don't worry about losing data, you can always change the type back to what it was earlier and use the Changes tab to recover old versions.)

    Adding your own types

Adding new types is also easy. Like everything else on Wagn, a card type is just another card. To create a new type, just add a card and select "Cardtype" in the type dropdown menu.

Click on the "Create" button, and the next time you see a type dropdown menu, your new type will be available as an option.

This card should really introduce people to the kinds of design decisions that we weigh when deciding how to organize things into card types. Or at least point somewhere that does...

"Click on the "Create" button, and the next time you see a type dropdown menu, your new type will be available as an option."

    This is not true.

Restarting the server script somehow fixed this problem.
